100,000 TPA BIODIESEL REFINERY, KUANTAN PORT IN MALAYSIA

The A$27 million facility was officially opened on the 15th of December 2007. The plant produces commercial quantities of biodiesel which meets or exceeds EN14214 and ASTMD6751 standards in force in Europe and America.

The plant will produce 100,000 tonnes per annum of biodiesel and two valuable commercial by-products being 10,000 tonnes per annum of 99.7% purified Pharmaceutical grade Glycerine and 4,000 tonnes per annum of Palm Fatty Acid Distillate (PFAD).

The primary feedstock of the refinery is Crude Palm Oil (CPO). The plant is a multi-feedstock facility capable of using other feedstock.

250,000 TPA BIODIESEL REFINERY, KUANTAN PORT IN MALAYSIA

The group commenced work on its second refinery, located adjacent to the first refinery in June 2007.

The refinery will produce 250,000 tonnes per annum of biodiesel, 10,000 tonnes per annum of Palm Fatty Acid Distillate and 25,000 tonnes of 98% pure technical grade Glycerine. The biodiesel produced will meet the European EN14214 and US ASTM 6751_D specifications. The primary feed stock of the refinery will be Crude Palm Oil (CPO).

The plant will use leading 2nd generation trans-esterification ESterfip-H trans-esterification technology by Axens, a 100% subsidiary of the French Institute of Petroleum and one of the world’s leading petrochemical and biodiesel process licensors.

Completion of the refinery is expected in August 2008.

MARKET AND OFFTAKE

  • Various governments around the world are promoting the use of Biodiesel as an alternative to petroleum-based diesel
  • Europe leads the world in the use of Biodiesel and Germany currently offers the largest and most attractive market in Europe
  • Mission Biofuels has offtake agreements for the sale of its Biodiesel production

SUPPLY OF FEEDSTOCK

  • Readily available and homogenous feedstock in Malaysia, which is the largest Crude Palm Oil (CPO) producer in the world
  • Mission Biofuels has a 5 year supply contract for 100% of the CPO required
  • Use of CPO which is typically a cheaper feedstock than other vegetable oils suitable for Biodiesel production

LOCATION

  • Mission Biofuels has a 22 year sub-lease over a 24,000 sqm site at Kuantan Port, a major oleo-chemical handling port in Malaysia
  • CPO, methanol and other key raw materials necessary for the production of Biodiesel are readily available at Kuantan Port
  • Mission Biofuels can benefit from lower labour costs, lower land costs and lower utility costs in Malaysia compared with producers located in Europe and Australia

FISCAL BENEFITS

  • A 100% Pioneer Tax Status incentive from the Malaysian Government, through its Malaysian subsidiary, has been conditionally approved, and upon achieving commercial production will provide a 100% tax holiday on operating income for the first five years of commercial operation of both the 100,000 tpa and 250,000 tpa refinery.
  • This benefit flows through to the head office of Mission Biofuels Limited.
  • Under current investment promotion guidelines in Malaysia, the subsidiary company will also be eligible for exemptions on customs duty on imported equipment and raw materials for the Project

FEEDSTOCK BUSINESS, INDIA

Mission has established a strong presence in India supporting the company’s move to grow its own inedible feedstock.

Through the subsidiary company, Mission Biofuels (India) Pvt Ltd (“MBIPL”) the company is involved in the large scale cultivation of Jatropha Curcas. The inedible oil crop which produces oil that is suitable for biodiesel production will ultimately replace Crude Palm Oil (CPO) as a feedstock.

The company has more than 100,000 acres of planted Jatropha Curcas and in addition to this several nurseries have been established where Jatropha saplings are grown and supplied to the partner farmers.
